The South West Chicken Association (SWCA) has developed a new Young Person’s Development Award, which offers up to £2,000 to support a young person interested in the poultry industry.

The award, developed in conjunction with sponsors Morspan Costruction Ltd, aims to enable a young person to learn more about, or further their career in, the poultry industry.

Applicants need to be between 17 and 30 years of age and residing or working within the current SWCA catchment – to the west of Oxfordshire and south of Gloucestershire (inclusive of those counties).

The application window is now open for the inaugural award which will be provided annually to an applicant, starting from 2025. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2025.

The award funds can be put towards a defined project or learning objective proposed by the candidate, relating to any aspect of poultry.

The award funds could also be used to fund conference attendance, or pay for travel and accommodation to visit a processing plant or innovative manufacturing site.

Any ideas for study or learning welcome, but the applicant will need to outline how they would spend the award to achieve their objective.

Members of the SWCA Committee, who have wide ranging experience and roles within the chicken industry, will help provide contacts and learning opportunities if required.
