The weather for the coming week is set to remain unsettled with heavy showers on the cards for most days.
According to Met Eireann, today will start frosty in most parts. Heavy thundery showers will spread from the West later in the morning. It will be a breezy day with southerly winds, highest temperatures six to nine degrees Celsius.
It will be mostly clear and dry tonight however showers are forecast along the Atlantic seaboard. It will be a cold night . Lowest temperatures 0 to minus three degrees Celsius, resulting in sharp to severe ground frost and ice on untreated surfaces.
Tuesday will be another wet and damp day. Met Eireann says frost and ice clearing soon after dawn on Tuesday morning. Rain and drizzle, with hill and coastal fog, spreading countrywide by early afternoon and persisting for the rest of the day. Temperatures will range from nine to 11 degrees Celsius.
The best weather on Wednesday is set to be in the east of the country. According to forecasters, it will be mainly dry and bright in the eastern half of the country but showers will occur in the west and also along the south coast, some heavy; southerly winds will be fresh or strong and temperatures will be near normal.
It is expected that the winds will change to a westerly direction on Thursday making it feel cooler. Met Eireann says showers will tend to become more widespread for a time but eastern areas are likely to remain largely dry.
Showers will continue along the Atlantic seaboard on Thursday night while the rest of the country stays mainly dry with clear spells.
At this stage Met Eireann says Friday will continue the showery trend in some areas with the west again affected the most. Winds will ease during the day but it will remain cool. Still some coastal showers in the west and northwest on Friday night but dry and clear elsewhere, with widespread frost and some fog patches forming as winds slacken.
For the weekend forecasters say it is likely to remain showery in coastal counties of the northwest and west, but most other areas will have sunny spells by day and frost at night.
