An employee of a family-run farm shop in Richmondshire, was knocked down by a car while attempting to stop a shop lifter from making a quick getaway.

The incident, which is depicted in the video below, showcases the employee bravely blocking the path of the thief’s vehicle which results in the offender driving straight into him and launching him onto the bonnet of the car, as he attempts to escape the scene of the crime.

The video was captured on Mainsgill Farm Shop’s CCTV and quickly gained viral traction after it was posted onto the shop’s social media account.

The incident, which occurred on November 23, was reported to North Yorkshire Police, who subsequently located and arrested the male suspect, charging him with a total of six offences and seizing his car in the process.

Police confirmed that the suspect, who, according to a spokesperson for Mainsgill, was a repeat offender, having previously stolen £900 a fortnight earlier, has since been reprimanded in police custody while he awaits an imminent court appearance.

The same spokesperson informed Agriland that the thief’s second burglary attempt was successfully intercepted by the heroic actions of the employee, who was subsequently named as Mainsgill’s owner’s son, ‘Matthew Henshaw’.

Matthew’s sister, Rachel, took to Maingill’s social media shortly after the incident, thanking their customers for their support, while providing them with an update on Matthew, who reportedly escaped unscathed.

She informed the shop’s followers that while Matthew was “completely fine” and unharmed, he and his family were completely “shaken” by the turn of events, expressing a desire to “move on now” from the distressing event.

Andrew and Maria Henshaw opened the family-run Yorkshire farm shop and tearoom in 2001 to sell their homegrown meat and produce, which has since grown from strength to strength.
