The UK’s largest dairy expo is set to go ahead as planned on Saturday (March 14) despite fears the event would be cancelled due to coronavirus (Covid-19).
Borderway Dairy Expo is one of the leading dairy events in the UK and proudly rates amongst the top dairy cattle shows in Europe.
Believed to be the largest expo in the UK dairy industry, the event showcases the best quality dairy cattle, the latest developments in dairy farming practice, breeding, genetics, machinery, equipment, technology, environmental issues, livestock marketing and export opportunities.
A statement from the event’s organisers Harrison and Hetherington read: “We have been closely monitoring all Government and Medical Advice and under current guidelines, we have been advised there is no reason for us to cancel or postpone this event.
All exhibitors and stock attendants have been on site for over 24 hours and are showing no symptoms, therefore, with no further apparent risk and their agreement, the show of dairy cattle will go ahead this afternoon.
“A dedicated member of staff is monitoring BBC and Government websites to keep updated with any changes in advice and we will immediately act accordingly if required.
“The position will be reviewed every two hours and an up-to-date statement made at the end of the day regarding tomorrow’s arrangements, therefore, please be advised that this decision may be changed at short notice.”
However, organisers are asking that anyone who has experienced any Covid-19 symptoms; such as fever, shortness of breath, or a dry cough not to attend the event, as well as anyone who has visited a high-risk area in the past 14 days or has come into contact with a positive Covid–19 case.
The statement also advised anyone considered to be in the ‘at risk’ category, for example, the elderly, and anyone with pre-existing or underlying health conditions, also do not attend.
“If any member of the public still wishes to attend, they do so at their own risk, and we would expect strict adherence to the handwashing and sanitizing guidelines,” the statement read.
“As a responsible business, we are taking every possible precaution to ensure the ongoing safety of our customers and staff.”
Borderway is UK’s largest and leading livestock sale centre, handling 800,000 head of cattle and sheep annually.
