Ireland remains in fifth place on the EU deadweight cattle prices league table, latest figures from the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) show.
The average R3 heifer price for the week ending August 30 in the Republic of Ireland was 404.9c/kg, back 24.1c/kg from the 429.0c/kg paid in the week ending August 2, it said.
This latest cattle price for the Republic placed it 8.1c/kg above the EU average price.
Looking to Northern Ireland, for the week ending August 30, the LMC said that the average R3 heifer price was the equivalent of 451.8c/kg back 27.4c/kg from the 479.3c/kg in the week ending August 2.
The North’s cattle price was 55.0c/kg higher than the EU average in the week ending August 30, compared to 76.4c/kg higher in the week ending August 2, it said.
This latest Northern Ireland cattle price placed it the equivalent of 46.9c/kg higher than the price paid in the the Republic.
Northern Ireland also retains its second place spot on the league table while the rest of the UK (England, Scotland and Wales) also retains the top spot.
Cattle prices have fallen in the rest of the UK however, with prices back 25.8c/kg to the equivalent price of 480.0c/kg in the week ending August 30.
The decline in GB R3 heifer price resulted in the UK/EU price differential narrowing from 102.9c/kg in the week ending August 2, 2015 to 83.2c/kg in the week ending August 30, it said.
