TV presenter and National Health Service (NHS) doctor Ranj Singh has joined a morning milk round today (Wednesday, January 4) to encourage people to ‘Wake Up to B12’ and reduce tiredness and fatigue.
Singh has joined to support the return of the Agriculture and horticulture Development Board’s (AHDB) ‘We Eat Balanced’ campaign and he aims to promote milk as an affordable way to work B12 into diets.
AHDB believes that milk offers a cheap way “to maintain a nutrient-rich diet for households struggling amid the cost-of-living crisis”.
“In addition to being a natural source of B12, milk contains another six essential nutrients and minerals, including calcium, protein and potassium,” it said.
‘Wake Up to B12’
A recent study carried out by AHDB showed that one in four (26%) adults are unaware of the role vitamin B12 plays in the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Furthermore, 27% also did not understand its role in helping the immune system to work normally.
The board added that only half of adults know which foods to consume to get B12.
NHS doctor and former Strictly Come Dancing star, Singh, has joined the campaign with the aim of helping UK consumers understand the benefits of B12.
“While many households will be looking to eat healthily in the most cost-effective way possible this year, milk is a great option for those that consume it, as it is packed with important nutrients like B12 at an affordable price,” Singh said.
“This January, I’d encourage families to ‘Wake Up to B12’ with a healthy breakfast made up of foods such as milk and other dairy products.
“Vitamin B12 can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and can help your immune system to work normally.”
Ranj listed his top three health benefits of Vitamin B12 as:
- It can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue;
- It can help support the immune system to work normally;
- It helps the body to release energy from food.
