Tributes have been paid following the death of John Logue, a farmer in his 40s from Co. Tyrone yesterday (Tuesday, March 18).

Sinn Féin councillor, Caroline Devine, for the Derg District Electoral Area (DEA) told Agriland that everyone in the Killeter area is in deep shock and saddened by what happened.

“This is a small, close knit community, everyone knows each other. It’s a farming community.

“A lot of people would know John and his family, he’s really well thought of in the area,” she said.

The councillor also said that Logue had been a father of one.

“I would like to offer my deepest condolences to his family and to all his friends,” Devine said.

Co. Tyrone

The Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that it attended the scene of a sudden death in the Pullytean road area of Killeter, near Castlederg, yesterday (Tuesday, March 18).

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it also responded to a 999 call at 17:24pm on Tuesday, March 18 following an incident in the Pullytean Road area and dispatched a rapid response paramedic.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) added: “HSENI attended an incident in the Castlederg area last night. 

“”We are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident and while our enquiries are ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment.”

Farm death

Separately last month, (February 24) a man died had died in a workplace incident at a farm in Newtowncunningham in Co. Donegal.

According to gardaí the man, in his 60s, was “pronounced deceased at the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) confirmed it had been notified of the death.

Gardai also indicated that a file would be prepared for the Coroner’s Court and that investigations had been carried out into the workplace accident.
