There is a significant improvement in trade for second-hand tractors, compared to this time last year, according to Cheffins’ Chairman William King.

This improvement in trade can be linked to a 40% drop in the quantity of used tractors coming onto the market, when compared with figures from spring 2016, King added.

Some 240 tractors were offered at the latest monthly plant and farm machinery sale organised by UK selling agents Cheffins in Sutton, Cambridgeshire, which took place on Monday, March 6.

“There was an improvement in trade since last month’s auction and there was also a higher number of tractors on offer.

Medium to high-horsepower tractors were in demand, with a lot of competition amongst domestic and export buyers.

“We had buyers in from Ireland, Germany, Spain, Poland and other eastern European countries.

John Deere models continued to be a popular choice amongst buyers, while modern Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors also fetched some good prices at the sale, King said.

“Buyers showed a keen interest in high-horsepower tractors with low hours.

“There was a good solid trade for grass machinery, such as rakes, balers and tedders. Fertiliser spreaders also sold to a keen trade,” he said.
