Tesco announced a major supply deal with Kerry Foods this week, which will be supplying the retailer with products for its new “Tesco Health Living” range much of which will be sold on UK shelves.
According to Tesco the deal will involve Kerry Foods producing seven product lines for the new range at its facility in Carrickmacross. Tesco says that large proportion of the products produced by Kerry Foods in Monaghan will be exported to Tesco UK.
The deal which is expected to be worth in the region of €3.6 million will involve the production of a range of products including; Moroccan Chicken, Chicken Pasta Bake, Chicken Tikka, Chilli Noodles, Sweet Chilli Noodles among more.
Speaking to AgriLand today Michael Sullivan of Tesco Ireland said that: Firstly, this deal is only one part of a much broader range of products some of which are also being manufactured in the country by other suppliers and will be launched soon.”
He noted that: “It is a really positive deal for Ireland, all exports are positive particularly in he higher end quality food bracket. This deal really follows on from our commitment to Ireland in the export market.
Tesco says whether you are on a diet, or simply want to eat more healthily, “Tesco Healthy Living” has it covered. It says the new meals contain no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat. The new packing also conveniently displays Weight Watchers ProPoints.
It added that the new range offers two options: “Big on Taste, Lower in Calories”, which offers products with 30 per cent fewer calories than comparable products and is aimed at people trying to lose weight, and “Beautifully Balanced”, aimed at people wanting to make healthier choices.
Tesco note that its Health and Wellbeing website offers customers support with their healthy living regimes, with lots of tasty recipe ideas and advice to help you make good food decisions. The website has devised a listing of ‘food baddies’ that are posing as healthy food options and there are a number of surprise entries such as olive oil, fruit juice, honey and granola.
