A Status Yellow wind warning is in force for the majority of the UK from today (Friday, November 26) until tomorrow (Saturday, November 27).
Beginning at 12:00p.m today, the Met Office has said there is a potential for a period of very strong winds to develop across Northern Ireland and northern Scotland, developing south during the evening.
On Saturday, until 6:00p.m, the warning coverage extends right down to Truro and Plymouth and across to Norwich, just avoiding Chichester, London, Chelmsford and Canterbury.
According to the national weather service, the following should be expected:
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport;
- Possible damage to some buildings, i.e. tiles blown from roofs;
- The possibility of some roads and bridges closing; and
- The possibility that power cuts occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
Rain is also to be expected for the weekend, becoming drier on Sunday, according to the Met Office.
