A barn fire in St. Cuthbert Out, Somerset, which resulted in 40% fire damage to the interior, is believed to have been started deliberately.
Fire crews from Bridgwater, Street, Cheddar, Shepton Mallet and Wells responded to a call just after 5:00p.m on Thursday (June 27) that a barn was well alight at a farm in Silver Street, Wells.
The barn is approximately 23m x 8m containing approximately 15t of hay and tyres.
The fire was extinguished using five breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one covering jet, one thermal imaging camera, drag forks and one spike attack jet.
Police officers also attended the scene, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue service said.
An update on Friday (June 28) stated that the barn was made of corrugated steel and suffered approximately 40% fire damage to the interior.
The incident has been “handed over” to the property owner, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said, adding that the barn fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
Overturned milk tanker
Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service reported yesterday (Sunday June 30) that it had two fire engines and an environmental protection unit dealing with an overturned milk tanker on the A38 near Shipham, Somerset.
Crews were trying to deal with milk spilling from the vehicle, using environmental equipment.
The milk tanker had turned over and spilt up to 1800 litres of milk.
Crews used environmental equipment to try and plug the leak and prevent any milk entering the water courses.
