Cumbria Police have closed the A596 following what it has called a “serious road traffic collision” involving a tractor and a Toyota vehicle.
The A596 is a primary route in Cumbria, in northern England, that runs between Thursby and Workington.
The incident happened at 1:26p.m today (Tuesday, April 12), police have said, on the northern end of the route towards Wigton.
Police, Ambulance and Fire, Search and Rescue are attending the scene.
The road will remain closed whilst emergency services attend the scene. Congestion is to be expected in and around the area.
Drivers are asked to plan their route accordingly.
Update on A596 incident: 5:10p.m
The occupants of the Toyota, a man and woman, both in the 70’s from Maryport, were taken by North West Ambulance Service to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle, with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-changing.
The road remains closed whilst police conduct investigations, and anyone with information or dashcam footage relating to this incident, is asked to report it, online or bal calling 101, by quoting incident number 102.
