Kverneland has introduced a new generation of classic pneumatic cultivator-mounted seed drills which it has named the Saterra range.

The company claims that the new machines offer a cost-effective solution for farmers looking for a straightforward seed drill combination.

This is language which suggests that the machines are perhaps orientated towards those farmers on a tighter budget than they might have been used to.

This new Saterra range provides seedbed preparation, precise seed placement and consolidation in just one pass and will help reduce the time pressure in the spring and autumn according to the company.

Two working widths

The new drills are available in working widths of either 3m or 4m and add to Kverneland’s range of cultivator mounted seed drills, displacing the DA and S Drill.

Production of the DA and S Drill models drew to a close in December 2024, with the last one sold in Ireland earlier this month, marking the end of an era that began in 1982.

As one of the first pneumatic seed drills, Kverneland believes that the DA drill, built with a modular design, set a milestone of innovation within seeding technology.

Saterra coulters

The Saterra is fitted with the popular CX-II coulters for precise seed placement. The shape of the disc and a coulter pressure of up to 50kg enables optimum soil penetration and an even sowing depth with little soil disturbance.

Kverneland delivers the drill with a pre-set row gap of 12.5cm or 25cm. However, the operator can adjust the sowing distance to their individual farming system with the flexible coulter brackets.

Being fitted with a universal coupling triangle, the Saterra can be mounted on existing Kverneland power harrows or any other soil preparation tools.

Small tractors

The compact design of the seed drill with a forward hopper position allows it to be mounted on smaller tractors with a lower lifting capacity.

The Saterra is available with a hopper capacity of 750L or 1,000L. The mechanical metering unit allows seed rates from 2kg/ha to 380kg/ha for both fine and larger seeds.

There is a full range of options including a pre-emergence marker and following harrow to allow the Saterra to be customised to a customer’s individual needs.
