Tractors have grown in both power and size in recent years, with higher horsepower models becoming more popular.
And with Christmas fast approaching, the team here at Agriland decided to compile a list of 300 horsepower tractors that would make it on to every farmer’s or contractor’s wishlist.
1. Case IH Optum 300 CVX
Fresh from victory in the Tractor of the Year 2017 competition, the Case IH Optum 300 CVX is sure to be on top of many Christmas wishlists.
Under the bonnet, the Optum boasts a 300 horsepower engine which can reach 313 horsepower thanks to a boost.
Powered by a 6.7L turbocharged engine, the Optum 300 CVX generates a PTO horsepower of 270.
2. McCormick X8.680
Designed for demanding contractors, the McCormick X8.680 is equipped with a Betapower fuel efficient 6.7L six-cylinder engine.
According to the manufacturers, these engines can generate 310 horsepower allowing the tractor to combine true power with comfort and style.
The turbocharged engine is located within a rugged chassis, which helps reduce noise and vibration levels within the cab.
3. John Deere 6250R
Although rated at 250 horsepower, John Deere’s latest addition to its tractor ranks – the John Deere 6250R – features an engine boost which brings the tractors total power to 300 horsepower.
The John Deere 6250R is powered by a 6.8L PowerTech PSS engine, with dual turbochargers.
The new model also features the upgraded AutoPowr transmission.
This system delivers maximum efficiency, with 100% mechanical power available at 3.5km/h for heavy draft operations, 11km/h for light draft work, 22.5km/h for heavy transport and 47.2km/h for light transport duties.
4. Massey Ferguson 8732
Featuring an AGCO SCR six-cylinder engine, the Massey Ferguson 8732 is bound to make its way on to many contractor’s and farmer’s Christmas wishlists.
The tractors Engine Power Management system sees the available horsepower increase from 257 to 320, while the system also provides a 30 horsepower PTO boost for work and transport over 20km/hr.
According to the manufacturers, the tractor has front lift capacity of 5,000kg and a rear lift capacity of 12,000kg.
5. New Holland T8.300
Last but not least is the New Holland T8.300 and the manufacturer describes it as the most powerful rigid tractor available with a full powershift transmission.
The New Holland T8.300 is rated at 257 horsepower, but the Engine Power Management system can boost the tractor’s horsepower to just under 300 – a boost of 42 horsepower.
Featuring a six-cylinder Cursor engine, the T8.300 is capable of producing a PTO output of 215 horsepower.
