The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society has unanimously elected arable and beef farmer Adam Thorne as its new president.
Thorne is the third generation of his family to hold the position.
He was elected during the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society’s annual general meeting (AGM) on the Pembrokeshire Showground last week.
On his election to the position of president, Thorne said: “I am proud of my long association with Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society.
“I am the third generation to now be president, following my late grandfather, Walter Thorne, my father, Robert Thorne and more recently my uncle, George Thorne. I am looking forward to my year in the prestigious position.”
Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society
Thorne has had a long association with Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, and first visited the show as a toddler.
He then went on to help show his family’s pedigree Herefords and his uncle got him into helping with stewarding in his early teens.
From there, he progressed to being a steward with his own section, commercial cattle, and then to the butcher’s lambs section.
He became involved with the agricultural society’s committee work. He started as an executive and went on to become a member of the former Finance and General Purposes Committee.
He has been the chair of the Estates Committee for 12 years and is now a board member and a trustee.
Away from his work with the society, Thorne runs his family’s arable and beef farm in Robeston West, Milford Haven.
He has been heavily involved with Tiers Cross YFC from an early age, and has been the club secretary twice and the chair.
He has also sat on Pembrokeshire County YFC Committees and the Wales YFC Rural Affairs Committee.
