Origin Fertilisers, a national manufacturer and distributor of fertiliser, has added to its team of in-house nutrition agronomists with the appointment of Julia Andrews.
Andrews, who brings Origin Fertilisers team of nutrition agronomists to six, will be based in Stirling and will offer advice on the benefits of balanced crop nutrition for farmers and growers across Scotland and the Borders for the company.
She comes from New Zealand with an agricultural background and has studied for a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science at Lincoln University in her home country.
Origin Fertilisers said Andrews then went on to work as an arable advisor for on of New Zealand’s largest agricultural distributors and input suppliers, providing her with extensive knowledge of both arable and grassland production systems.
Andrews believes that there are many similarities between UK and New Zealand farming that will allow her to help farmers become more productive with their fertiliser use.
“From the type of climate, livestock and crops, the similarities between the two countries are well-known and this puts me in a strong position to quickly understand a UK farmer’s needs, but also draw on my experience and add value when offering advice,” she said.
“The right crop nutrition has never been more essential, and farmers require a deeper understanding of what different nutrients can offer, so our advice needs to make the most of any investment the farmer is making.
“Understanding what a crop needs and tailoring fertiliser to meet these demands is essential.”
