The National Sheep Association (NSA) has said that it is "troubled by the chaos of government" following the resignation of "yet another" Prime Minister.

The association's comments follow Liz Truss' resignation from the role of Prime Minister, after just 45 days in office, earlier today (Thursday, October 20).

“Today’s resignation of the Prime Minister shows yet more distrust running rampant through the current UK Government and causes further turmoil for industries across the country," said Phil Stocker, NSA chief executive.

Stocker said that the NSA is concerned over the affect that this upheaval will have on future farming policy.

"NSA is concerned that we may now see another ministerial reshuffle enforced, with the last six weeks simply causing disruption and a loss of confidence in agricultural and environmental policy," he said.

In her resignation speech at 10 Downing Street, Truss said that a leadership election will be completed "in the next week".

"This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security," she said.

Truss will remain as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen.
