An investigation into a fire at the cattle market in Nottinghamshire has determined the fire was started deliberately.

Police are appealing for help identifying two men and one woman (pictured top) in relation to the incident.

15 fire engines and three aerial ladder platforms from across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire were called to the fire which began just before 5:40pm on Meadow Lane on Sunday (November 4).

During the blaze, several small explosions were caused by compressed gas cylinders which had been caught up in the flames.

At its height, around 85 firefighters were on the scene.

As a result, four buildings were left completed destroyed.

A joint investigation is currently underway, however, early indications suggest the blaze involved fireworks which were set off nearby.

The fire caused disruption to roads around the area, however, Meadow Lane is now open, while Incinerator Road and Clarke Road remain closed while the investigation into the cause of the fire takes place.

Station manager Simon Glew said: “This was a significant fire, and our crews worked through the night to bring the incident under control, and our praise goes to them for their hard work in keeping the public safe.

“We were assisted by our colleagues in Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and throughout [the last few days], we have continued to work with our partner agencies including Nottinghamshire Police, Nottingham City Council and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

“The incident has had a safe resolution, and we would like to thank the public and commuters in the area for their patience whilst we have dealt with this.”

Appeal

Officers are keen to speak to the three people pictured to see if they have any information that would assist in the investigation. Two of them are men, one is described as being in his early 20s, wearing a tracksuit and the other in his 30s with a beard and wearing a flat cap.

The third person is a woman, in her early 30s, wearing a long coat and carrying a handbag.
