NFU Scotland has launched an art competition for school-aged children who are at home due to coronavirus lockdown.
Full etails will be announced within the May issue of the union’s members’ magazine Scottish Farming Leader.
Editor Diana McGowan explained how the idea came about: “With NFUS staff unable to get out and about to meet people in their usual way at the moment, my supply of photos for the magazine was running dry.
I was also very conscious that many members will, like me, have children at home just now instead of being at school, and are looking for various ways to keep them occupied.
“So, I thought an art competition would be a great way of helping everyone and also capture the positive images that children of Scotland’s farmers and crofters are seeing through their eyes during this unusual time in history.”
There are three age categories open:
- Eight years and under;
- 9-11 years;
- 12-17 years.
The winner of each age group will receive a Siku limited-edition Gold JCB 8250 Tractor with Driver toy.
Kids are invited to draw or paint something they see on their farm that reflects something positive happening or makes them feel happy during their time at home during the coronavirus lockdown.
For example, new lambs in the field, a busy tractor, fruit and vegetables, etc.
Entries will be received up until the closing date of Friday, May 15, 2020.
A selection of drawings will appear in print in the July issue of Scottish Farming Leader and others on the NFU Scotland Facebook and Twitter pages.
Mrs. McGowan added: “I’m delighted that Farm Toys Online have agreed to sponsor the competition and am really looking forward to receiving the entries and sharing as many of them as possible in the July issue of the magazine as well as via the NFUS Facebook and Twitter feeds. Remember to stay at home and stay safe!”
How to enter
To enter, participants are asked to email two photos – one of them holding their artwork and a second picture of just the artwork – by the Friday, May 15 closing date to: [email protected].
They must include a contact email, participant’s name, age, along with a short explanation of what they have chosen to draw or paint, a contact number of your parent or guardian, and the membership number of the lead farmer.
Participants are asked to retain their original artwork at home until the end of May 2020.
