Wynnstay has appointed Jonathan Baxendale as its new combinable seed product manager.
Baxendale joins Wynnstay from UK plant breeder, Elsoms Seeds, where he progressed from seed sales specialist to energy and forage crop manager.
His last role involved liaising with plant breeders across Europe, selecting seed varieties to market to UK distributors.
While completing a degree in Agricultural Business Management at Newcastle University, Baxendale spent a seasonal work placement at Wynnstay Woodheads Seeds in North Yorkshire, setting him in good stead for his new position with the company.
In his new role, he is responsible for managing Wynnstay’s combinable seed portfolio, working closely with plant breeders to ensure the best seed varieties are on offer to growers, while also providing agronomic advice.
“My interests lie in combinable crops,” he said. “I’m enjoying the variation within my new role, where I liaise with plant breeders but I’m also in the thick of the action, on-farm, working closely with growers to ensure they select the most suitable varieties.”
Hailing from a mixed arable and beef family farm in South Yorkshire, Baxendale now resides in the West region and is based at Wynnstay’s Shropshire office.
