Light Science Technologies (LST) has announced a distribution agreement with agricultural automation provider, AgriLogiq, with the aim of growing South Africa’s vertical farming industry.

Controlled environment agriculture technology specialis LST said the five-year distribution partnership with AgriLogiq will provide it with access to the South African market, allowing it to distribute its lights to South African vertical farming facilities.

AgriLogiq is a provider of agricultural automation services, offering advanced poly-greenhouse automation software and hardware components that increase crop yield.

Operations director of Light Science Technologies, Craig Price, said the strategic partnership with ArgiLogiq is an “exciting opportunity to contribute to the growing vertical farming industry in South Africa”.

“Our innovative lighting technology will help create the ideal light recipe for growing bigger and better crops,” he said.

Due to scarce rainfall, poor soil conditions and harsh growing environments in South Africa, there has been a growing market for greenhouse structures and vertical farming, Light Science Technologies said.

With increasing demand for growing under glass, organisations like Agriloqiq are aiming to be at the forefront of supporting South African horticulture.

Managing director at AgriLogiq, Joel van der Schyff, said: “We are excited to join forces with Light Science Technologies because their products excel in quality, modularity, and design, precisely aligning with our team’s needs.

“We look forward to a bright future, working closely with the LST staff to develop unique and innovative solutions for South Africa.”

“This partnership marks an important step in the development of our global partnerships’ strategy,” Price said.

“We look forward to targeting high-growth regions with our products as we aim to enable even countries with the harshest of environments to consistently grow fresh and flavourful fruit and veg.”
