In an interesting development, New Holland unveiled a T5 Series tractor with a stepless ‘Auto Command’ transmission and a Stage V compliant engine at EIMA 2018 – a major Italian farm machinery show.
According to New Holland, the transmission – incorporating the “very latest” CVT (continuously variable transmission) technology – mates with a new, specially-developed FPT Industrial NEF 4.5L engine.
The tractor actually attracted a ‘special mention’ in the Technical Innovation Contest at the exhibition.
The panel of judges was reportedly impressed with the new, fully under-hood installation of the exhaust gas after-treatment system. This integrated system is intended to “improve visibility and manoeuvrability”.
Rated power (on these tractors) is from 110 to 140hp, which means up to 20hp more is available than on the current T5.120 Electro Command model.
New Holland actually secured three awards in the Technical Innovation Contest. One was for its IntelliSense system on its CR Revelation combines. Last, but not least, was a ‘special mention’ for its Intelligent Trailer Braking System.
‘Intelligent’ trailer brakes
The manufacturer introduced its “patented” Intelligent Trailer Braking System for its T7 Auto Command and T6 Auto Command tractors earlier this year.
This innovation is designed to “enhance stability under deceleration with a trailer, particularly on low-friction surfaces”.
A spokesperson explained: “The system ensures that the deceleration rate of the tractor and its trailer are aligned when the driver reduces the tractor’s speed by using just the transmission, without applying the service brakes.”
