Murphy’s Motors, based in Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny, has been appointed as a distributor for Shelbourne Reynolds agricultural machinery in the south-east.
Shelbourne Reynolds has designed and manufactured farm machinery in the UK for over 45 years, from where it exports to over 50 countries worldwide.
It is expected that Murphy’s Motors will begin selling Shelbourne Reynolds hedge and verge-cutters from November, when stock will be available to view at its premises on the New Ross Road.
Murphy’s Motors currently holds over 12 franchises from entities such as: New Holland; Amazone; Krone; Quickie; Kane Trailers; Kidd; Tanco; Rossmore; Malone Engineering; APV; and Pro-Dig.
Shelbourne Reynolds claims that its tractor-mounted hedge and verge-cutter has been engineered to outperform other machines in tough conditions. Some of its key features include a “more efficient high-pressure, low-flow hydraulic system, which in turn generates less heat and provides more power to the cutting head”.
Two cast iron gear pumps are mated to the gearbox; one is for the rotor drive and the secondary pump enables arm movements.
Speaking about the appointment, Dick Murphy of Murphy’s Motors said: “Collaborating with companies such as Shelbourne Reynolds means we can bring farmers the very latest and best machinery to the region.”
Who or what is Shelbourne Reynolds?
The company’s roots can be traced back to 1972, when Keith Shelbourne purchased the business assets of Reynolds Engineering Ltd and formed Shelbourne Reynolds Engineering Ltd.
The business operates from two main locations – the manufacturing facility in Stanton, Suffolk (England) and a US distribution centre in Colby, Kansas.
The 110,000ft² factory sits on a 5ac site in rural Stanton – near Bury St Edmunds – in Suffolk. It employs 140 people and is home to CNC machining centres, laser steel cutting machines and one of the UK’s largest powder coat paint facilities.
Most of the products manufactured originated in the company’s own design office.
A high proportion of manufacturing is done in-house, including all machining and gear cutting.
The Kansas base was established in 1996. It serves as a sales office, machine storage facility and parts distribution centre for the US market. It supports all of Shelbourne’s customers there and in Canada.
