North Wales Police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the death of a man, following an incident on a farm near Holyhead yesterday (Wednesday, March 12).

Police officers were reportedly called to the farm at 12:03p.m yesterday, after they were alerted to an incident at a farm at Rhydwyn on Anglesey, during which a man had been injured.

Colleagues from the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust were also called to attend to the injuries of the man involved in the farm incident, a representative from North Wales Police claimed.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man in question passed away from his injuries.

According to North Wales Police, the man’s next of kin have been contacted and the coroner has been informed, as per police protocol.

Investigating officers are also working alongside the Health and Safety Executive to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death, a police representative confirmed.

According to the National Farming Union (NFU) Wales, 23 people died from farm-related incidents between 2019 and 2024. However, only one agricultural fatality was recorded in Wales between the recording year, April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024.

This represents a significant reduction on the average of four farm-based fatalities per year in Wales, as well as the figure of six recorded for 2022-2023, NFU Wales said.

Over the last five years, the average age of those suffering a fatality as a result of an agriculture-related incident in Wales is 55, which is slightly lower than the national average age of 60. The range of fatalities by age group over the last five years is:

  • 10.5% of the fatalities were under 13 years of age;
  • 5.3% of the fatalities were 18 years of age to 39 years of age;
  • 57.9% of the fatalities were 40 years of age to 64 years of age;
  • 26.3% of the fatalities were 65 years of age and older.
