A US farmer has saved the life of one of his calves after he missed one of his cows give birth, by bringing the calf into a hot tub.
The farmer Dean Gangwer discovered the calf in a snowbank last week and he could tell that the newborn calf was in danger; its body temperature was extremely low, he was barely breathing and he could hardly keep his eyes open, theindychannel.com reports.
The US farmer put the calf into the back of his truck and brought him home, bringing the calf into the hot tub with him in the hope of bringing the calf’s body temperature back to normal, the website says.
“I jumped in fully dressed, held Leroy up so he didn’t drown, and him and I had a nice bath for an hour, so we both came out warm and I think the end story’s gonna be great for him,” Gangwer said.
After a while in the hot tub Gangwer brought the calf inside his house to dry him off and wrapped him in electric blankets to help warm him more, theindychannel.com says. After a day and a half the calf’s body temperature returned to normal and he began to nurse, the website says.
The US farmer said that Leroy was getting stronger by the minute and he should be joining the rest of the herd soon.
“Leroy’s officially done hot-tubbing. Some sunbathing is definitely in his future out in the grass, but definitely his hot tub days are done,” Gangwer said.
