Consolidation of machinery dealerships continues with Scottish John Deere outlet J&S Montgomery buying DKR Agricultural Services of Coultar in South Lanarkshire.
The acquisition agreement reached between the two Scottish John Deere dealers will see J&S Montgomery add a fourth depot to its business, enabling it to expand into Lanarkshire, South Stirlingshire, and West Lothian.
The dealer principals at both companies, which have more than 75 years combined experience of John Deere sales and service, are working to ensure a seamless transition for customers in the territory.

Douglas Montgomery, Dealer Principal at J&S Montgomery noted: “We are pleased to have been able to reach an agreement with the owners – the Doig family – and in the coming weeks and months we will work together to incorporate and ensure it’s business as usual for all customers and staff.”
J&S Montgomery became a John Deere dealer in 1980 when it had just one depot based on the family farm near Beith, North Ayrshire.
It added to the business in 2005 and then again in 2015 and currently has depots in Stranraer and Ayr.
Montgomery points out that the company has a loyal customer base down the west coast of Scotland, which consists mainly of dairy, beef, and sheep enterprises, although arable farmers are also counted amongst the customer base.
Brian D’Arcy, division sales manager for agriculture at John Deere UK and Ireland, said: “We are hugely grateful for the 35 years of loyalty and customer service excellence that the DKR Agricultural Services team has given customers.
“I would like to thank David and all the team at DKR for all their hard work and commitment to John Deere.”
Mergers and acquisitions such as this are being encouraged by larger manufacturers, who are looking to move their business models to encompass digital offerings and recurring payment income rather than seasonal variation and uneven cash flows.
