Back in May a small group of vintage enthusiasts set off on a trip from John O’Groats to Lands End, traversing the whole length of the UK in four weeks on their vintage and classic tractors.
This in itself was quite an achievement, but in addition to this, the group raised over €20,000 for Critical, a charitable organisation dedicated to saving lives through providing first responders for medical emergencies.
To celebrate the completion of the challenge and to share their memories of the trip, the group, known as The Irish Rovers, are to hold a presentation night on December 7 at The Farm, Grenagh, Co Cork, courtesy of Mick Forde, who is himself a keen collector of vintage and classic Massey Ferguson tractors..
Present at the event will be the four tractors and drivers that took part along with the support team that carried the fuel and spares for each machine.
Thankfully there was little call for repairs along the way, such was the reliability of the well prepared tractors.
Vintage event
Billed as a Christmas party for all vintage tractor enthusiasts there will be a film of the trip plus a good selection of photos taken along the way.
The group was blessed with good weather during the whole of May with only one day of rain to spoil the proceedings, this enabled the venture to be recorded in good light, making the film all the more interesting.
A meal will be served before the cheque presentation, followed by music and dancing to round off the evening, which starts at 6:00p.m.
The group’s spokesperson, Kieran O’Donaghue, told Agriland that tickets for the special event are selling fast and urged people to secure their tickets before it sells out.
