The Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) is asking grocery suppliers to confidentially share how they have been treated by the 14 large retailers.
It launched its 10th annual groceries sector survey today (Monday, January 16) to see how suppliers are being treated by Aldi; Amazon; Asda; B&M European Value Retail SA; Co-operative Group; Iceland; Lidl; Marks and Spencer; Ocado; Sainsburys; Tesco; TJ Morris (Home Bargains); Waitrose; and Morrisons.
The survey will be open for six weeks, meaning suppliers have until February 26, to submit their views. The results will be published in the GCA’s newsletter and on the GCA website later this year.
It is estimated that it takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Trade associations and direct and indirect suppliers of groceries to retailers may take part.
Last year, the survey results, which were based on 2,500 respondents, highlighted how retailers had responded to cost price increased. This was the most raised issue in five years, the GCA said.
Suppliers also highlighted other issues including around de-listing (16% of suppliers), forecasting errors (18%) and delays in payments (12%).
Mark White, GCA, anticipates the 2023 results with concern as inflation has continued to affect the groceries sector since the 2022 survey.
“I want to hear from as many suppliers as possible so I can understand the ongoing impact of inflation and other issues affecting suppliers,” he said.
“This will help me to work with the retailers to ensure they are treating all suppliers fairly and legally.”
