With the latest Toppa series, Grimme believes that it is bringing a new generation of haulm toppers into the market.
Low power consumption, redesigned housing and increased suction power are the main features of the new machines.
A range of different models are available that enable haulm topping of two, four, six or eight rows – either in front or rear mounting format, or, alternatively, as a combination of both.
Grimme offers all international, commonly used row widths and track widths – taking into account different flail contours for crop cultivation in ridges or beds.
Mix units to match row widths
The two and four row models can be mounted front or rear. By optimising the gearbox position, the angle of the PTO shaft of the tractor has been reduced.
This decreases wear on the PTO shafts, especially when lifting the haulm topper at the headland.
Another new feature is, that the four-row machine with a row width of 90 cm is now also equipped with a continuous flail shaft – without any bearing and missing flails in the middle of the shaft.
Large maintenance flaps across the entire width of the housing make it easier to access for cleaning and to change the flails.
Transport widths
The six row front-rear combination consists of the Toppa 200 at the front of the tractor and a Toppa 600 Combi at the rear.
This larger unit, the 600 Combi, is folded hydraulically so that two rows are folded on either side of the tractor.
It is also possible for the machine folded hydraulically to a transport width of three metres for a fast change of fields.
Should there be a requirement for an eight-row front-rear combination, the Toppa 400 at the front is combined with an eight row Combi at the rear.
With the 400 haulm topper, the road transport width is 3.29m, at a row width of 4 x 75 cm.
On the Toppa 600, an optional hydraulic side shift is also available, which can be controlled manually or, at the highest configuration level, can adapt fully automatically to the alignment of the ridges.
This is particularly relevant if the number of rows of the planter does not match the number of ridges of the haulm topper.
Flails from Grimme
Grimme fits its standard flails across the range which, when adapted to the ridge contour, ensure an even and clean flail cutting pattern.
In addition to the normal flail types, counter blades can be installed for optimum haulm shredding.
When combined with the new, extended haulm deflector plates, the placement of the potato haulm between the ridges is significantly improved which facilitates further desiccation if required.
