Genus ABS, a company in the bovine genetics industry, has announced its reformed herd-monitoring system, which it says will replace the breeder tag system.
The new technology, named ‘Ingenuity’, will be personalised to each individual farm. It can be adapted to individual systems and requirements.
Ingenuity combines a customised and flexible blend of the latest innovation in herd-monitoring technology with data, insights and support from a team of experts.
How does the service work?
Genus ABS’ Ingenuity herd-monitoring system will inform farmers on how to improve the fertility, health and well-being of their herd.
The herd-monitoring technology is available as either a pedometer or a collar, and each system enables farmers to gather valuable insights about the health, activities and behaviours of the herd.
Specific features of the new technology include;
- Heat detection;
- Health and well-being alerts;
- Rumination monitoring.
The proposed benefits of using Ingenuity include:
- Improved fertility;
- Enhanced herd management;
- A reduction in labour intensive process.
The collar is also available with an LED cow locator for easy identification of animals within the herd.
The development of Ingenuity
Ingenuity’s technology was developed through years of research by Genus ABS.
Technical services manager at Genus ABS, Jon Mouncey, said: “Skilled labour is a continual challenge and Ingenuity ensures that the herd is consistently monitored, helping farmers make evidence-based, timely decisions to improve the performance of their herd.”
The data of Ingenuity is real-time, and customisable through an app.
