A fire at a pig farm in Co Carlow has a substantial amount of of pigs dead.
The fire, which broke out last Thursday, on the Roche farm at Monemore, Co.Carlow was attended by local Gardai, the Health and Safety Authority and the local environmental officer. No one was injured in the fire, but reports say that hundreds of sows died in the fire.
Garda confirmed that they attended the fire at 3pm on and no one was injured and they are not treating it as suspicious.
As Garda spokesperson said a “substantial amount of livestock were destroyed” and that the HSA and local environmental officer attended the scene on Thursday.
The farm, which is owned by Pat Roche, is located near Beagenalstown, Co. Carlow.
Last year, some 400 piglets and 32 sows were killed in a fire on a Co. Tyrone farm, according to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS).
