England and Wales will face each other in the World Cup this evening (Tuesday, November 29), and two former professional players have used their sheep to show who they support.
1,200 sheep were used to spell out the ‘SHEEP > LIONS‘ message, which was unveiled by former international football players Cliff Jones and Terry Medwin.
The 1,248m2 sign contains up to 160 sheep/letter.
Paddy Power, the Irish betting company that organised the stunt, said it “probably” sets a Guinness World Record for the largest sheep formation ever, but joked that it couldn’t “afford the fella with the clipboard” to verify it.
Former Welsh international and Tottenham Hotspur player, Cliff Jones, said: “This giant message of support from our treasured sheep population is sure to inspire the boys out in Qatar.
“If we’d have had something similar in 1958, we might have beaten Pele and Brazil in the quarter final.”
England vs. Wales
Paddy Power, sharing the images and videos of the stunt on social media said:
“As an Irish brand, we know all about being underdogs at the World Cup.
“Unlike us, our Celtic cousins have made it to this tournament and because we’re not there, we thought we’d get behind them.
“St. Patrick was a Welshman after all. Allegedly.
“We wanted to send a message of support from sheep pen to Rob Page, and warn Southgate: Wales are coming to get ewe – and they plan on showing what they’re made of: ourage, fearlessness and 76.3% wool.”
