An appeal for information has been launched by the owner of Stansted’s Mountfitchet Castle after CCTV footage showed a tractor damaging the 300 year-old boundary wall of his castle.
Residents managed to capture some photos of the incident but the owner, Jeremy Goldsmith, is appealing for CCTV or witnesses to the incident.
He said: “I received a phone call to say the wall had been hit all the way down by a farm implement on the back of a tractor. Everyone came out to see, but the driver just drove off.
The decent thing would have been to come and tell us. It has done a lot of damage as apparently he was going quite quickly.
“It was a dangerous bit of kit on the back with hooks that damaged about 100ft of the wall, going along it like a rake, pulling out the flint.

“It’ll be a long process to get it fixed and that is very frustrating for everybody in the village. This highlights that Grove Hill is really an issue that needs addressing.”
Appeal for info following theft of sheep
Police in Gloucestershire have launched an appeal for information following the theft of what they described as a ‘large’ number of sheep.
The sheep were taken from an area in Skegness sometime between 6:00pm on Tuesday (October 6) and 9:00am on Wednesday (October 7).
The stolen lambs have no identification tags to link them to the farm.
Police say this was a well organised crime which would have required a large lorry or trailer to execute the theft.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police.
