An on-farm meeting in Denbighshire this month will focus on what steps to take when looking to enhance cow mobility.

Organised by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the event will take place from 10:30a.m – 2:00p.m on Tuesday, August 20, at Bodysgaw Isa, Llannefydd, Denbigh, Conwy Principal Area.

The focus of the meeting is enhancing herd mobility while out grazing, and boosting profits and public perceptions at the same time.

AHDB said lameness can be expensive, requiring additional staff time and treatment costs, while also leading to lower yields and shorter productive lifespans for cows.

The event aims to offer practical, actionable ideas that can be implemented on-farm to improve cow welfare, even when time and resources are tight.

Attendees will hear from mobility mentor Sara Pederson who will share best practices about identifying and applying the right solutions for your cows.

Then Arthur Owen will share how they worked together to improve lameness rates at Bodysgaw Isa.

The event will cover:

  • The key factors that affect mobility while grazing;
  • Practical ideas for addressing lameness;
  • The benefits of our Healthy Feet Lite programme;
  • The steps Bodysgaw Isa took to improve mobility.

Other cow mobility meetings will take place at other locations, including Newcastle under Lyme, Pembrokeshire, Leicestershire, Chippenham, Bideford and Cumbria.
