The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has today (Monday, November 18) opened applications to recruit non-executive board members (NEBMs) to management boards.

The members will be recruited to its two agencies; the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and Forest Service.

There is particular interest in experience in areas such as commercial expertise, science, technology and innovation, corporate governance or talent management.

Permanent secretary of DAERA, Katrina Godfrey said: “This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role at board level, providing advice on strategic and operational issues and scrutinising and challenging performance.

“We’re particularly keen to attract people who share our commitment to public service and who can bring skills that complement and add to those already around the board table.”

DAERA

In recent months, DAERA has signalled a commitment to increase representation on boards by NEBMs. Some long-serving NEBMs have also recently completed or are nearing the end of their terms of appointment.

This recruitment process is therefore being organised to fill the following vacancies:

  • One vacancy on the Departmental Board;
  • One vacancy on the NIEA Management Board;
  • Two vacancies on the Forest Service Agency Management Board.

A criteria-based selection procedure will be used to identify the most suitable candidates for the positions.

Chief executive of Forest Service, John Joe O’ Boyle said: “This is a valuable opportunity to use your talents and expertise to assist the running of a public body.

“We welcome applications from any candidates who believe they have the necessary skills and enthusiasm to make a real difference to decision-making and the wider work of the boards, whether experienced or first-time NEBMs.”

The deadline for receipt of all applications 5:00p.m on Friday, December 6 2024. It is expected that successful candidates will be appointed from February 2025.
