BASIS, an independent standards-setting and auditing organisation for the pesticide, fertiliser and allied industries, has appointed Andrew Lazenby as its new chief executive officer (CEO).
Lazenby is the former CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society of England and Innovation for Agriculture (IFA). He holds an honour’s degree in Agri-Food Marketing Business Studies from Harper Adams University.
BASIS said he will be working to build and sustain its core membership activities while helping to consolidate and drive a range of new digital opportunities throughout the agricultural sector and further afield.
Commenting on his appointment, Lazenby said: “This new role is a unique opportunity for me to help grow both the service offering and geographical reach of BASIS and we will be, quite quickly, bringing to market new products and extending our reach into new areas.
“I have a history of developing and delivering growth for organisations so I’m excited to be involved in such an exciting charity at a pivotal time.”
He added: “In the current situation where we’re seeing a switch to regenerative agricultural practices and with ELMs [Environmental land management schemes] appearing over the horizon there’s a huge opportunity for what BASIS does and what it can, and will, offer in the future.
“There’s a fantastic team in place at BASIS and I very much look forward to working with them and growing the established team.”
Chair of BASIS Registration Ltd. William Burgess said the charity is “delighted” to appoint Lazenby.
“He brings extensive expertise from his previous CEO roles and his proven track record for leadership in this sector will stand us in good stead,” he said.
“We feel Andrew can take the charity forward and help us achieve our strategic and ambitious business goals.”
