Aurivo Co-op has held its milk price for July, the co-op has confirmed today (Friday) after its board met to decide the price.
A spokesperson for Aurivo confirmed that its producers will be receiving, 37.0c/L (inc. VAT), for milk supplied in July. This is the same price that was paid the previous month.
Meanwhile, Strathroy Dairy has confirmed that it is paying wholesale suppliers 34.0c/L (plus VAT) plus a bonus of 1.0c/L for July milk. The equivalent price for winter milk suppliers is 34.0c/L (plus VAT), plus a 0.5/cL bonus and a further 1.5c/L winter milk production bonus.
Strathroy Dairy director Ruairi Cunningham said: “These prices exclude all quality, butterfat and protein bonuses. It would not be correct to combine both these prices and compare them with a weighted average for last month, as our mix of wholesale and winter milk suppliers continues to change.”
He also said that Strathroy is continuing to grow its producer base. “At the present time approximately 30 farmers have submitted their notice to quit both Glanbia and Wexford at the beginning of October. Of this total I would be confident that 24 or 25 will come on board as suppliers. Significantly, these are farmers in counties Wicklow, Kilkenny, Carlow and Meath, each with significant numbers of cows.
“In tandem with our growing producer base in Wexford, we are finding retailers in that area more amenable to stocking Strathroy produce lines.”
With regard to future farmgate price trends, he said that volatility will be a feature of international markets for the coming months. “Producer prices may well continue to soften during the period ahead.”
Earlier this week, Town of Monaghan co-op announced that it has cut its July milk price by 1c/L to 35.5c/L. This follows on from the Glanbia, Lakeland and Kerry also cutting their July milk prices.
