The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) will host a technical webinar on bluetongue for vets next week.
The event will feature a panel of experts who will provide an update on bluetongue and the current serotype 3 strain that has been confirmed in sheep and cattle in Kent and Norfolk.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, January 24 from 6:00p.m until 7:30p.m.
Currently, there are 51 bluetongue cases in England on 27 premises.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has said that there is still no evidence that bluetongue virus is currently circulating in midges in Great Britain and that surveillance is ongoing.
AHDB said its bluetongue webinar for vets will offer vet practitioners and other stakeholders “valuable technical information” about BTV-3 that will help them answer farmers’ questions.
It forms part of a series of webinars that AHDB is running fortnightly on Wednesdays at 6:00p.m to provide live updates and presentations from industry experts.
“Each webinar will start with a BTV update followed by a detailed briefing on a specific topic,” the board said.
The most recent case of bluetongue was detected in a cow on a premises near Limpenhoe in the Norfolk temporary control zone (TCZ).
The positive animal will be humanely culled to minimise the risk of onward transmission, Defra said.
The TCZ is not being extended and movement restrictions continue to apply to cattle, sheep, deer, camelids and other ruminants in the zone.
