The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) will be holding an open day at their Northern Ireland Greenmount campus on Wednesday, April 22, to showcase its upcoming agriculture courses
At CAFRE’s Greenmount campus courses in agriculture, horticulture, land-based technology and veterinary nursing are available on full-time and day release basis.
Courses at the college are practical and business focused, according to the North’s Agriculture Department (DARD), which says that 94% of students gain employment or progress into further education within six months of course completion.
CAFRE also has a range of courses at further education and higher education. Further education courses include apprenticeships, diplomas and extended diplomas. DARD says that work experience in the further education courses can take place not only in Ireland, but in the UK and New Zealand.
For the college’s higher education courses, DARD says applicants can choose between BSc [Hons] in Agricultural Technology jointly provided by Queen’s University Belfast and CAFRE and Foundation Degrees in Horticulture and Agriculture and Rural Studies validated by the Ulster University.
Work placement as part of the higher education courses and many students opt for placements in Australia, France, Germany and the US.
The open day takes place at the Greenmount campus from 4-9pm on April 22 and attendees will have an opportunity to talk to staff and students about the courses available and to see the campus facilities.
