The 38th edition of the Black & White sale held at the Borderway Sale Centre attracted a massive crowd of dairy enthusiasts from across the UK and Ireland, with buyers recorded from 23 UK counties and six countries, including Germany. 

Trade topped at 9,000gns with 42 animals selling for or above £4000 with the overall average coming to £4210 per life.

Topping the sale at 9,000gns was Auchensala LH Kedar Temper Tantrum Red who was consigned by Ali Cook, owner of Auchensala Genetics and Jonny and Jess Lochhead from the Kedar herd both from Dumfries. 

This super stylish daughter of Blondin Alpha is a direct daughter of the All-American winner, Milksource Tantrum Red EX94

The next dam is the two-time World Dairy Expo Grand Champion Strans-Jen-D Tequilia EX94. Tantrum was purchased in partnership by the Blythbridge and Boclair Holstein herds.

The Black & White sale

Auchensala Genetics and Absolute Genetics sold Auchensala Ambrose Manhattan for 7,000gns to the partnership of Rory Scott and Adam Smith.

Manhattan is sired by Progenisis Ambrose, her dam is the winning Autumn Red & White two-year-old at the Royal Winter Fair this year.

She was followed by Blondin Unstopabull Maple Red EX94, the only Red and White Holstein in the history of the breed to win Supreme Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair. 

This exclusive heifer is the only progeny from Maple to sell outside North America and already has attracted international embryo contracts.   

Holstein milking heifers topped at 7,000gns for Denmire Ferraro Reba, who was consigned by the Dennison family from Scales Park Farm near Ulverston. 

Reba was a close to perfect young two-year-old sired by OCD Ferraro and is bred from one of the top producers at Denmire, producing over 1000kgs of combined butterfat and protein in all her lactations. 

This heifer with an unbelievable udder was purchased by John Lyle from Neither Pratis Farm in Fife.

Several Holstein lots sold for 6,000gns, including Overside Eye Candy Vada who was consigned by the Neilson family. 

This super pretty calf is sired by Eye Candy and was a granddaughter of the two-time World Dairy Expo Champion Bred & Owned, MS Beautys Black Velvet Vada was bought by Mitchell Young from Lanarkshire.

Other top prices

The Firstlook Holstein herd owned by James and Steph Doherty sold a flush session from their ultra special, Firstlook Jackpot Sara for 6,000gns to the Awde family from Penrith.

Sara was the winning Winter Milking Yearling at both UK Dairy Expo and UK Dairy Day this year, the next three dams have been either winners at Swiss Expo or the Royal Winter Fair in Canada. This flush session was for a minimum of five embryos.

Tim and Lauren Fitzmaurice, owners of the Leagh Holstein herd from Tralee, Co. Kerry, sold a choice from four heifer calves for 6,000gns to Enda Doran from Roscommon. 

These special heifer calves were a few weeks old and are sisters to the record breaking Riverdane KD Hannah who sold for 90,000gns in the Riverdane Sale in 2023. 

These heifers are sired by Dropbox, their dam is Siemers LBA Hannina EX94, this pedigree included no less than three Global Cows of the Year going back to the original 2005 winner Dellia.   

Jersey heifers topped at 8,000gns for Royal Flush Genie In a Bottle who was consigned by Adam Smith from Cornwall. 

She is sired by Victorious and is a direct daughter of Rapid Bay Genie In A Bottle EX92.  Third dam in this special pedigree was the three-time Royal Winter Fair Grand Champion Vandenberg Amedo Gorgeous EX97.
