The countdown is on for Scotland’s largest two-day agricultural show. Attracting around 30,000 visitors annually, Turriff Show is set to open its gates once again on Sunday and Monday, August 5 and 6.

Now in its 154th year, the show boasts 1,553 classes varying from cattle to pigeons and young farmers stock judging to companion dog shows and an £88,000 prize fund.

Alongside the return of the popular livestock events, the highlight of the ringside entertainment is the heavy horse turnout display.

New additions this year include a gin and prosecco bar, pageant parade and a show jumping relay. Turriff Show will also once again play hosts to the Scottish National Simmental Cattle Show.

This year’s show president, John Sleigh, said: “The show is not just for farmers and we want to accommodate every member of the public that walks through the gates, whether their interests lie with cattle, horticulture, food and drink or they are just wanting to come along for a fun-filled family day out.

“Agrii will feature as main sponsors for the show and we are extremely grateful for their support and indeed all the other sponsors involved.”

New for 2018

The new ‘gin and prosecco bar’ will be run by the local A&J Catering and will offer a selection of local gins from Aberdeenshire and further afield.

The new ‘Mini-Major Relay’ will see the six prize winners from the Open Junior Show Jumping team competing with the winners of the Open Grand Prix. The event takes place on Monday afternoon in the main ring.

Main attraction – the heavy horse turnout display – will include entries from all over the UK and will be one of the largest displays in the country.

Other main ring entertainment includes the dog agility display by Devana Dogs, Sulky Trot, and adults’ and children’s races.

Funding from the Tesco Bags for Help appeal, and Aberdeenshire Council has been granted to the show and will be used to develop the event going forward.
