A ‘mighty’ team of 50 women has been put together to pull a tractor from Irvinestown to Ballinamallard today (Saturday, September 14).
The challenge is taking place to raise much needed funds to complete phase 1 of the Ballinamallard community hub project.
The thinking behind the hub is to provide a space for the local community to meet, eat, work or avail of practical support through the provision of services such as counselling, dementia support and poverty assistance.
The hub, a not-for-profit community initiative led by Ballinamallard Methodist Church, aims to serve the community with a coffee shop, mental health support and rented office spaces.
The fundraiser started off very small, but escalated and became a team of 50 women, not including the helpers and sponsors also on board, said committee member, Caroline Campbell.
The tractor pull will involve five teams of 10 women and they will pull it as a relay team, but everybody will walk the distance with the tractor from Irvinestown to Ballinamallard, she said.
The mighty women are looking forward to the pull and local businesses have been highly supportive, according to Caroline.
Mallard Bakes has sponsored the women’s t-shirts and numerous other local businesses have sponsored the advertising, so that has been very encouraging, Caroline said.
On the day of the fundraiser, the hub will be open from 12:00p.m and the architects will be there to discuss the plans.
