Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather warning for Munster, Connacht and Donegal as heavy thundery downpours are likely through the rest of the day, leading to local spot flooding.
Forecasters are expecting very intense rainfall possible over short periods of time with totals of 25 to 40 mm possibly in places.
Met Eireann says scattered showers this afternoon and evening, many heavy and prolonged or with thunder, leading to localised flooding. Some hazy sunshine as well. Highest temperatures 15 to 18 degrees. Winds will be light, mainly between east and south
It says rain or showers will continue to affect western and southwestern counties tonight and the risk of thundery rain will decrease.
Elsewhere it will become mainly dry, although mist may thicken to fog in places. Winds will be mostly light variable and lowest temperatures will range from 7 to 10 degrees.
