Eight Aurivo milk suppliers from seven counties were recognised for their excellence in milk production at the annual Aurivo Milk Quality Awards held recently in The Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Now in its seventh year, the Aurivo Milk Quality Awards identifies and rewards Aurivo milk suppliers who exemplify excellence in milk quality.
The host of RTÉ’s Countrywide Damien O’Reilly presented the awards on the evening, where the top award was won by Cathal Lowry from Loughrea, County Galway, who was named as Milk Supplier of the Year 2013.
Cathal also won an award for the highest percentage milk solids, milking a herd of 140 Jersey cross cows, Cathal attributes his high percentage milk solids to his cross bred herd and carefully managing each individual cow through milk recording.
The other category award winners included;
- Best performing Donegal supplier, John Speer, Ramelton, Co Donegal
- Best performing new entrant, Francis Nally, Athlone, Co Westmeath
- Most improved somatic cell count, Kevin Moran, Caherlistrane, Co Galway
- Lowest somatic cell count, Ger Brennan Strokestown, Co Roscommon
- Best performing Northern Ireland supplier,Robert Russell, Omagh, Co Tyrone
- Lowest TBC liquid milk, Vincent Mitchell, Ballinfull, Co Sligo
- Lowest TBC manufacturing milk, Edward Mannion, Westport, Co Mayo.
Speaking at the awards, Padraig Gibbons, Chairman of Aurivo said: “The annual Aurivo Milk Quality Awards highlights and rewards dairy farming excellence in our region. Eight suppliers from across seven counties were honoured at Aurivo’s awards ceremony for their dedication and commitment to producing the highest quality milk throughout 2013. Each of the category winners are excellent ambassadors for Aurivo and the dairy farming sector, by achieving and maintaining the highest standards.”
