The Great British Beef Week (GBBW) returns for its 14th year on Tuesday, April 23. The campaign celebrates the versality and taste of beef, while highlighting the commitment of beef farmers.
Attendees will experiment with British beef by creating a “re-imagined” dish incorporating “unique” twists from global cuisines like Asian or Caribbean.
The event was founded by Devon beef producer, Jilly Greed and it was created by Ladies in Beef (LiB) and former National Farmers’ Union (NFU) president, Minette Batters,
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) is collaborating with food influencers from social media, who will lend their culinary “expertise” to create their own re-imagined beef dishes.
Additionally, they will be sharing stories from British beef farmers on what they are doing to support the environment and improve biodiversity.
The campaign is supported by the following:
- Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB);
- Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC);
- Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC);
- National Farmers’ Union (NFU);
- Red Tractor and RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution);
Senior knowledge exchange manager, AHDB, Karl Pendlebury said that the event is important to inform chefs and consumers about the work that the farmers do on a daily basis to become more environmentally friendly.
He added that beef farmers work hard to produce good quality beef while trying to reduce “inorganic” inputs and good practices that will attract many insects that are benefical for soil quality
Head of marketing, AHDB, Carrie McDermid said:
“We are delighted to be working with foodie influencers who will use their cooking expertise to inspire the nation to cook with naturally delicious, British beef during the ever-popular GBBW.
“We aim for households to mix-up their roast beef experience and celebrate delicious, locally reared British beef.”
Ahead of the week-long festivities, on Tuesday, April 16, beef farmer and LiB member, Anna Blumfield, will host an event that highlights the British field-to-fork.
Anna Blumfield said that GBBW raises awareness about the importance of supporting the British farming community.
Attendees will experience the processes involved in beef production. Through butchery and cookery demonstrations, guests will also explore current culinary trends and menu development ideas.
