Aldi, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s have all announced cuts to the price of their own-brand milk.
From today (Friday, June 30), each supermarket’s own-brand four-pint bottle of milk will cost £1.45, a reduction of 10p from £1.55.
Aldi and Sainsbury’s two-pint bottles have been reduced from £1.25 to £1.20, the price Tesco is paying too.
Aldi has also reduced its six-pint bottles from £2.30 to £2.15.
Aldi and Sainsbury’s said the reductions will have no impact on the price paid to farmers. Tesco has previously said that the price it pays farmers is set independently from prices in store.
Milk price
This is the second time in recent months that supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s and Tesco, have moved to reduce the price of their own-brand milk.
These prices cuts, the supermarkets said, are all in the name of the consumer.
According to market researcher Kantar, the price of groceries is the most significant concern for UK consumers after the price of energy bills.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “Shoppers are having to make hard choices about how to spend their money at the moment, which is why we are investing in the price of key everyday items to help customers manage their finances.”
All three supermarkets have also recently cut the prices of other own-brand products such as pasta.
“We hope that these continued price cuts will help reassure customers that we are passing on savings as soon as we can, especially on the everyday essentials people buy the most,” a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said.
“We’ll continue to work closely with our suppliers to pass on price cuts to our customers whenever we can,” Tesco chief product officer, Ashwin Prasad.
