The Ernest Cook Trust, a grant-giving charity that provides and funds outdoor learning projects, is seeking to recruit a farmer trustee to join its board.
The current board hopes that the new trustee, who can be a tenant farmer or farm owner, will bring first–hand experience of farming, helping the charity to address the ongoing challenges of agriculture, diversification and conservation.
It is also hoped that the farmer will have at least ten years’ farming or agricultural experience, as well as a knowledge of current regulations facing agricultural land and of funding streams for farming and diversification, and the ability to demonstrate experience of adapting a business to changes facing the farming industry.
Furthermore, the Ernest Cook Trust seeks a farmer with an innovative, positive mindset that embraces biodiversity and sustainability combined with the need for profitable food production, and that embodies the trust’s values.
Chairman of trustees, Andrew Christie-Miller, said: “We are looking to recruit a new farmer trustee to join our board in furthering our sole charitable object of education.
“The successful applicant will embody the trust’s values, bringing first-hand relevant experience to our dynamic team, helping address the ongoing challenges of farming, diversification and conservation.”
The successful applicant will sit on the main trustee board which normally meets four times/year. They will also be required to join the Estates Committee, dealing with the agricultural portfolio and overseeing the wider range of property issues, including forestry, residential and commercial properties, and developments.
Remuneration for the role is £10,000/year and the time commitment is 15-20 days/year.
