To coincide with International Women’s Day today, March 8, Breedr is asking farmers to share photos of themselves via social media with the hashtag #BreakTheBias.
“As a forward-thinking company in an industry where women have quite a limited voice, we really want to use our network to share positive messages about the amazing role women play in British agriculture,” said Suzy Wheal, co-founder of Breedr.
“So many women work both as sole traders and alongside their partners and families, and it’s time to celebrate them as farmers and farm workers in their own right.”
To further the impact of the photos, the company has also created a series of ‘Proud to be’ posters (available on its website) that can be freely downloaded and digitally snapped.
One farmer that is taking part in the challenge, Georgina Glew, is pictured above alongside her boyfriend Nick Stones who is holding one of the posters.
“We’d love as many women to take part as possible; this is a great opportunity to highlight the impact which female farmers have on the agricultural industry and hopefully inspire a new generation of girls to step up and get farming,” added Wheal.
To take part in the challenge, simply snap a picture like the one above and share it today, tagging @_breedr and using the hashtag #breakthebias.
Breedr
Breedr, the prevision livestock network, has ran similar initiatives like this in the past.
Previously, the company raised money for the OddBalls Foundation for its ‘Bulls Out for Cancer’ campaign.
Through the campaign, for every bull logged in the app in May and June 2021, Breedr donated £10 to the OddBalls Foundation, with an extra 10p added for each bulling activity or artificial insemination added. Farmers who shared their photos or video on Twitter with the hashtag #BullsOutForCancer earned another £1 for the charity.
