A new Optum 250 CVX model is set to join the existing Optum 270 CVX and 300 CVX in Case IH’s tractor line-up.
It produces a maximum power output of 273hp; rated power is 250hp. As its model designation suggests, it comes as standard with CVXDrive – Case IH’s continuously-variable transmission.
Like existing Optum models, the 250 CVX is based on a “high-power, low-weight” design – or so claims the manufacturer. Units destined for this market will, like its siblings, be assembled in St. Valentin, Austria.
It spans the same 2.995m wheelbase as other Optum models.
The sales pitch states that it can be operated unballasted, for jobs where high power yet low weight is required (such as mowing), or weighted for tasks necessitating higher levels of tractive performance (such as primary cultivations).
A structural oil sump forms part of the 6.7L FPT Hi-eSCR Stage IV six-cylinder engine; it’s the same turbo-charged and inter-cooled unit that’s already used in the other two Optum models.
Fuel-saving features include an ‘idle speed’ management system, which reduces engine speed from 850rpm to 650rpm if the tractor remains still without moving for two minutes. Fuel tank capacity is 410L.
ABS and engine braking
The options list includes anti-lock braking (ABS) and an engine braking system. The latter works in combination with a variable-pitch fan, apparently providing up to 149kW of braking power – to help to “rapidly” reduce tractor speed and stop the vehicle “as quickly as possible”.
At the rear, the Optum 250 CVX is equipped with a Category IIIN linkage – supposedly capable of lifting a maximum of 11.058t (or 10.305t throughout the lift range).
Hydraulic requirements come under the care of a 165L/min pressure-flow compensating pump. Maximum rear tyre size is 2.05m.
