The Forestry Commission is seeking a senior adviser for planning, with the role’s annual salary range being between £45,260 and £49,062.

The Forestry Commission said the role can be based in any of its offices across England and can be office based or a blend of home and office working.
However some travel and potential overnight stays will be required from time to time.
Within Forest Services (FS), the multi-disciplinary Policy and Advice team (PAt) helps the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and other government departments to develop forestry and woodland policy.
The chosen candidate will report to the head of planning, infrastructure and the built environment and will focus on the interface of the planning sector and development with trees and woodland.
They will help ensure that the benefits of trees and woodlands are recognised and utilised in a time of significant planning reform, helping the land management, planning and development sectors respond to net zero carbon and nature recovery policies.

The post will operate in an interdisciplinary environment, working directly with policy, incentives and regulations leads and area delivery teams in Forest Services.
The Forestry Commission said the chosen candidate will also need to rapidly develop collaborative relationships with colleagues in Defra, MHCLG, Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Planning Inspectorate, local authorities and wider government.
They will provide specialist expertise to FC England, ministers and other public bodies on managing the impact of planning decisions on woodlands and maximising the provision of ecosystem services through woodlands in the planning system.
The chosen candidate will also drive coordinate national scale projects focusing on the planning system, as part of the planning, infrastructure and built environment team within the policy and advice team.
Essential professional traits the candidate must have include:
- A degree or significant equivalent experience in a relevant subject such as land use planning or environment land management;
- Professional membership, or eligible for professional membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or related chartered bodies such as RICS, IEMA, Chartered Environmentalist;
- Competent IT user with experience of the MS Office suite of applications.
